Import Your Own Unique Discount Codes

Coupon Carrier lets you import your own pre-generated, unique discount codes and distribute them securely via email, QR codes, and e-commerce — with single-use enforcement and full redemption tracking.

You can import codes by:

  • Uploading a CSV file
  • Pasting codes directly (one per line)

Imported codes behave exactly like generated ones: each code can be delivered once and marked as used when redeemed.

When Should You Import Your Own Codes?

Importing your own codes is best when:

  • You already have a list of unique codes
  • Codes were generated externally
  • Codes need to match existing systems or campaigns
  • You’re migrating from another platform

If you don’t already have codes, Coupon Carrier can generate them automatically for you.

How Code Lists Work

All imported codes live inside a Code List.

A Code List:

  • Stores your unique codes
  • Tracks delivery and redemption status
  • Is connected to Redeem Links, QR scanners, or integrations

How to distribute unique codes for restaurants, physical stores, and events

Step 1: Create a Code List

  1. Go to the Code Lists tab in your dashboard
  2. Click Create a new list
  3. Give the list a descriptive name (e.g. “Spring Promo Codes”)

Step 2: Import Codes Into the List

Open your new Code List and click Import codes.

You can import codes in two ways:

Option A: Paste Codes Directly

  • Paste one code per line
  • Best for small lists or quick tests

Example:

WELCOME10
SPRING25
VIP-ACCESS

CSV files must contain a column named Code.

Example CSV format:

Code
WELCOME10
SPRING25
VIP-ACCESS

Download the example file directly from the import modal.

Important

  • Codes must be unique
  • Duplicate codes will be rejected
  • Codes are case-sensitive
  • Other columns are ignored

What Happens After Import

Once imported:

  • Codes are stored securely
  • Each code can be delivered once
  • Codes can be marked as used during redemption

You can now connect the Code List to:

  • Redeem Links
  • QR Scanners
  • Shopify or WooCommerce
  • Zapier automations

Managing Imported Codes

From the Code List, you can:

  • Search for specific codes or recipients
  • Export delivered or undelivered codes
  • Remove unused codes
  • Rename or delete the list

All management actions are available under Export / Manage.

Tracking Usage & Redemption

Each imported code has a full Code Timeline, showing:

  • When it was delivered
  • How it was redeemed
  • When it was marked as used
  • Who performed the action

Common Import Mistakes (and How to Avoid Them)

Missing “Code” column

→ CSV must contain a column named exactly Code

Duplicate values

→ Each code must be unique

Trying to reuse used codes

→ Once marked as used, codes can’t be reset

Importing more codes than your plan allows

→ Extra codes are allowed, but delivery limits apply

When to Use Automatically Generated Codes

Use auto-generated codes when:

  • You don’t care about the exact code value
  • You need large volumes
  • Codes should be created dynamically
  • You’re using e-commerce integrations
